This study has been performed to provide basic data related fetal life. In this study, the outcomes and process of all the pregnancies of women with spouses living in Gapyung- gun, Kyunggi province were analyzed from May of 1994 until December of 1995. Of the 586 cases of pregnancies that have been observed during the period of the study. The results of the study are as follows:

1. Of 452 cases which were followed until the completion of pregnancy, 345 cases (76.3%) were completed as live births, 33(7.3%) were fetal deaths, and 74(16.4%) were induced abortion.

2. According to the life table analysis, the estimated probability of pregnancy wastage throughout gestation period was 18.8%. When counting only induced abortion 13.6% were wasted and when counting only fetal deaths, 6.8% were wasted.

3. The average pregnancy duration of the wastage cases was 69¡¾30 days for induced abortions, and the average duration was 104¡¾59 days for fetal deaths. The term was shorter for the induced abortion due to early termination of pregnancy in order to minimize the danger, while fetal deaths are scattered over the gestation period.

Overall in this study because most pregnancy wastages take place during the early period, the early diagnosis of pregnancy and monitoring is recommended. For that purpose, substantial efforts for prenatal lives should be made by the national population policies as well as the individual pregnant women.
